Putting on my geek hat for a moment.

by

Going to take a break from my busy work week and my chrismhanukawanulevus preparations and shut down a little misinformation floating around the world geek web this week. It seems ./ picked up on a story from Entertainment Weekly that said Joss Whedon is killing the Firefly universe. For those of you who don’t know what Firefly is you can stop reading now. The rest of this is boring.

I ignored this story (as it seemed contradictory to what Joss had said in previous interviews) until a friend of a friend posted it as gospel on his blog. Loads of people have been commenting on the interwebs about how this is true and ‘how could Joss do this’ and ‘oh I saw it coming’ etc. etc.

So for those of you concerned about this ‘verse and its fate I recommend you go read this thread on whedonesque. which has a post from the man himself.

I will also leave you with a quote from Joss in the Toronto Star:

“I’m never satisfied,â€? Whedon confesses. “I do feel some closure. But closure doesn’t mean closing the book, on those characters, on those actors, on that universe. I always want more. I am a rabid fan. And so, while I’m happy to lay down my arms for a while, if somebody said, `Pick ‘em up, let’s do more!’ I wouldn’t hesitate.â€?

Now back to your regularly scheduled inactive blog.

PS: Nick, if you are going to post a *MAJOR* spoiler in a blog entry that comes across RSS please invistext it or flag it or something. There are those of us who are pretty big Firefly fans who for whatever reason hadn’t seen Serenity yet. You killed a big part of the movie for them (me).

First, this is EXACTLY the kind of post people point to when they made fun of blogs — dork rumormongering and flaming.

Second, it is NOT a spoiler if the movie’s been out for six months and is now on DVD. You were just too cheap/lazy/etc. to go see it. I’m not sure when the spoiler shield is lowered, but I know it’s before the movie comes out on DVD.

Third, the other big former spoiler from Serenity is that the Reavers are —–

man, i’m so backing steven up here. its not a spoiler cause if you haven’t seen it then YOU are part of why firefly has been ended. they looked at the numbers of ticket sales + the number of dvd sales, and said there just wasn’t enough interest. you should’ve given them your money like a good robot and seen the movie and learned the spoiler. i blame you personally for this news. end of story.

that being said, i saw the movie three times in the theater, and each time i kept hoping that said spoiler didn’t happen. even though i’d seen it already. so, it really doesn’t ruin anything for you.

Hey man. Yeah. Gonna have to agree with the consensus here, although I think they’re kind of harshin’ on ya.

That being said, I’ve only seen the movie once, but upon reflection, I really kind of hate it. I loved it at the time, but the more I think about it, the less I like it.

    So maybe it should die.

    I don’t know. I’m just sayin’.

Sorry I’ve kind of dropped off the face of the planet lately. Work has been a real bitch.

High hopes I might be getting some sort of USB Midi keyboard here soon, so we’ll have to start Live’in it up here soon again.
    :)

well, i wasn’t being harsh towards him specificially. ;) but, the fact still remains that this series has had way more of a run than any other sci-fi series out there. not since the star trek franchise has the fan base been able to get a series more play. sci fi has run it. it got a full length movie. in general firefly/serenity has stomped other cancelled shows into the ground with the rabid fan base.

but, the problem with a rabid fan base is that its not a huge fan base. so ever dollar earned counts. if (anyone) is such a huge fan, then (they) should’ve made the effort to see the movie. or even bought the dvd when it came out. i know joss would do more of firefly, if the studios would let him. but, they show him the numbers, and that’s that. i’m just glad to have gotten what i got. no bitching at allen for it.

I was going to stay out of this but when I saw the WordPress Spoiler Tags plugin, I thought of this post.
